Candidate and Precinct Delegate Deadlines

November General Election Candidate Deadline

The filing deadline for partisan candidates for the Nov. 4, 2014 General Election is Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Primary contests, if there are any, will take place on August 5, 2014. There are many important contests at stake, including our local County Commissioners, a few township offices, seats in the U.S. Senate and House, the State Legislature, and the Governorship. Please make sure you are registered and ready to vote in this election. Our county Precinct Delegates will be elected August 5.

Precinct Delegate Filing Deadline

To get on the ballot, file affidavit of Identity with the County Clerk no later than 4:00 pm on May 6, 2014. Petition signatures are not required. Candidates will appear on the August 5, 2014 primary ballot. A precinct delegate candidate may hold or seek any other public office in Michigan and may appear as a candidate for another office on the August 5, 2014 primary ballot. An Affidavit of Identity form designed exclusively for use by precinct delegate candidates can be obtained through any county clerk’s office or is available on the Michigan Department of State’s website: Or, a standard Affidavit of Identity form can be filed.

The Benzie Dems are looking for candidates to serve their local party in their home precincts as Precinct Delegates. Precinct Delegates elect the Benzie Dems Executive Committee, keep in touch with and help identify the Dems in their home precincts, and help get out the vote on election. They are the grass-roots of the party. See more about delegates in our Winter newsletter.

Based on the November 6, 2012 Democratic Presidential/Vice Presidential Results and the formula adopted by the Benzie County Democratic Party Executive Committee (1 delegate per 100 Obama votes (or fraction thereof), we need the following number of precinct delegates, by Township/City.
