The public is cordially invited to a community screening of the documentary The Unnamed Flag Raiser of Iwo Jima at the Garden Theatre in Frankfort on Thursday, April 26th at 6 p.m. A Q&A with documentary co-producer and retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Matt Morgan will follow the 50-minute film. The documentary centers around a Marine Corps forensic investigation into the iconic flag raising photo seventy years later, in which it is determined that at least one of one the famous flag raisers has been misidentified for decades. Mike Taillard, candidate for Michigan’s 35th State Senate district, will be holding a campaign fundraiser giving people from across Michigan a chance to enjoy the day while showing their support for the troops.
8am-Noon: A family-friendly event. All-ages Tournament of Champions, including Lego building competition; strategy games, Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, and a Chili Cook-Off. Basketball games and playground also available, weather permitting. Invitations to compete or judge are $5, but free for those with a valid CAC or VA ID. Chili cooks should register by emailing contact@miketaillard.com.
Noon-4pm: The main event hosted by comedian Brendon Lemon. Invitations available at the door for $40 donation, and includes free unlimited entertainment, food, beverages, a silent auction, and several guest speakers. Free, supervised playground available for kids, weather permitting. Free sober drivers available to drive people and vehicles home within local area. Those with a valid CAC or VA ID are exempt from the donation.
6pm-8pm: Exclusive 6-course dinner prepared by chef Tony Matta. Only 10 invitations available for those who donate $500 or more. Anyone interested in attending can request an invitation by emailing contact@miketaillard.com.

Some sad news: our dear friend Tim Bannister has passed away. Tim was a successful business man (most recently, owner of Serendipity House; Frankfort, MI), a county commission candidate in 2016, and a good Benzie Dem. We'll miss his gentle, can-do, community-minded spirit.
