Thank Dan benefits Benzie Baby PantryMore than 100 Democrats from Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee counties braved stormy weather on December 11 to gather for a “Thank Dan” party honoring State Representative Dan Scripps. The event was also a benefit for the Benzie County Baby Pantry in honor of Scripps’ son, who was born in 2010. The program included a pot-luck dinner, live music, remarks thanking Scripps for his service in the legislature, and remarks by him on the 2010 election effort. The event was also a "baby shower" in honor of Dan's son Jack, who was born in 2010. Attendees contributed $600 cash and two car loads of gifts for the Benzie County Baby Pantry, which serves parents of children ages birth to 5 years.
"Blue Tiger" Dems help at Summer Fest For the past three years, the Benzie Democrats Blue Tigers have volunteered to help make the Thompsonville Summer Fest a successful event for people that portion of our county. This year, about 400 people attended Summer Fest. On Monday, June 21, 2010, we help set up tables, chairs, and tents for the event. Later, after the event ended at 9 p.m., the volunteers took down tents, cleaned floors and put tables and chairs back in the buildings. The Benzie Dems also provided $300 to help pay for food and door prizes at the event. The Benzie Democratic Committee wishes to thank the twelve members of the "Blue Tigers" who help to make the event. The Blue Tigers is a group of local Democrats who feel they should give back to their community through volunteering for local projects, such as food drives for local food banks, and a Santa party at Thompsonville.
