Please join the Benzie County Democrats for a night of music and fundraising!
Live music from Uncle Ted’s Nightcrawlers, Jim Clapp, Standing Hamptons, and Steve Fernand. Contribute $10 towards the Democratic candidate of your choice for County Commissioner: Coury Carland, Don Tanner, and Charity Miller.
There will be a cash bar. The party will supply finger food, music, and hopefully a good time for all who attend. Each year this is a fun and festive event! Hope to see you there.

Our new headquarters is open — stop by for a visit!
For the 2014 election and beyond, the Benzie County Democratic Party in June opened a headquarters in Honor and has now announced expanded office hours for the election season. The office is at 9330 Honor Highway (U.S. 31) between Shirley’s Salon and the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater. The space, renovated by volunteers, is being used for public contact, meetings, and special events. Information on candidates, the Democratic Party, and items such as shirts, hats, and signs are available there.
Volunteers are needed to staff the office between now and the election. All hands welcome — please volunteer as much as you can. If interested, please stop by, email, or call.

Lisa Brown, the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, the woman who was silenced in the Republican-controlled Michigan Legislature for speaking out for women’s rights, will be the keynote speaker at the Combating the Republican War on Women event on Monday August 18, 1-3 PM, at the Manistee Golf and Country Club.
Currently the Oakland County Clerk, Brown previously served two terms as a Democrat in the state House of Representatives before being chosen by Mark Schauer as his running mate for the Governor’s seat.
“Lisa Brown is a proven leader who’s always been a tough fighter for the middle class,” Schauer said in a statement. “Lisa shares my values and priorities for making education our top economic priority, and working to make Michigan’s economy fairer for the middle class.”
In 2012 Brown received national media attention for being silenced when she spoke opposing legislation that would have closed women’s health clinics and banned abortions for women after 20 weeks even in cases that jeopardized the mother’s life. The next day, thousands of men, women, and children showed at the capital steps to show support for her and for women’s health care choices.
