State Representative Kyra Harris Bolden is running for the Michigan Supreme Court and will be with us Saturday, September 17, to fill us in on her plans and positions.
Bolden is an attorney, currently serving her second term in the Michigan State House. Rep. Bolden received her bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Bolden has advocated for Michiganders and focused her work on criminal justice reform, crafting and passing bipartisan legislation to protect survivors of sexual violence.
After becoming a member of the State Bar, Rep. Bolden practiced as a criminal defense attorney, Judicial Law Clerk in Wayne County’s Third Circuit Court, and as a civil litigation attorney with Lewis & Munday, P.C., in several practice areas before successfully running for office for the first time in 2018.
Rep. Bolden is a member of a number of organizations, and has also received several awards, including the 2019 Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs, Inc. “Young Women Lifting As We Climb Image Award”; 2019 African American Leadership Awards “Emerging Leader Award”; 2020 Michigan Chronicle 40 Under 40 honoree; 2021 Legislative Economic Development Champion Award; and the 2021 Michigan Credit Union League “Legislator of the Year” award.
Rep. Bolden and her husband, Dr. Greg Bolden, are expecting their first child.
