Saturday, Sept. 20 is all about VOTING and petitions!

This coming Saturday, Sept. 20, we’re doing something kinda new for our monthly meetings: presenting four folks involved with one of democracy’s best tools–petitions–to make things better, or worse, in Michigan.

Sound like an arduous marathon? Not at all, and you can Zoom if you can’t be there in person.

In fact, each of our guests will talk for just a few minutes, with clear explanations of the petition they are working on and what we can do to help. Each will take a few questions and…on to the next one!

Here’s who we’ve got lined up so far:

Barb Smith, of Traverse City, will talk about Rank MI Vote. Ranked choice voting lets you pick your first, second, and third-favorite candidates; a fair counting system turns those votes into a winner best reflecting voters’ overall sentiment.

Barb ‘splains it way better, will be at HQ, and is bringing petitions.

Christy McGillivray, executive director of Voters Not Politicians, talks to us about the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics (MMOP) petition. Tired of big utilities and corporations with big state contracts using our money to sway our leaders and elections? This is for you!

She or one of her allies will definitely be at HQ with petitions and info on getting more involved.

Jamila Martin represents Invest in MI Kids, the initiative that taxes Michigan’s wealthiest one percent to better support public schools.

And, finally–those devious petitions Republicans are circulating that would make it harder for some folks to vote? We’ll let you know who’s speaking on stopping this bad idea as soon as we do.

It all happens in speed-dating style at Headquarters and on Zoom next Saturday, Sept. 20. We start in both spots at 9:30 a.m. with warm koffee klatchin’ and our famous breakfast treats, tho’ ya gotta show up in person for that part.

Then, at 10, party and community announcements–followed by our rapid-fire Benzie Dems Petition-Palooza.

Put it on your calendar right now, and if you maybe can’t make it, sign up now here for your own Zoom link. Make Zoombot happy–it’s been a bit lonely while we ignored it and rallied in Benzonia and Baldwin.

And let’s be proud of ourselves–we Benzie Dems, like so many other Dems across the country–are workin’ it hard.

That’s how we win!
