Tips for Protesting Peacefully and Safely

PREPARE

  • June 14 is predicted to be mid-60s and light rain. Dress accordingly.
  • Wear comfortable shoes with non-slip soles.
  • Carry a backpack, fanny pack, or pockets to keep your hands free.
  • Eat a meal beforehand.
  • Bring drinking water.
  • Bring your phone, ID, and cash.
  • Carry emergency contact information.
  • Bring a sign with appropriate messaging for the event.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

  • The First Amendment guarantees your right to peacefully protest.
  • You also have the right to film or document actions in public spaces.
  • If you are detained or arrested, you have the right to remain silent and request a lawyer.

AT THE PROTEST

  • Stay aware of what’s happening around you.
  • Stay with the group.
  • Obey the marshals.
  • Help and support others as needed.
  • Amplify our message post-march by taking photos and sharing.
  • DO NOT ENGAGE with counter-protestors under any circumstances.
  • Call 911 if a problem arises.

AFTER THE PROTEST

  • Rest, reflect, and renew your energy to continue the fight for justice.
  • The Roadhouse will open at 3 p.m. for thirsty protestors who want to hang out and debrief.
