October 3: Baldwin Bound to Support ICE Victims

We’re making our 13th monthly trip to the Baldwin concentration camp this Saturday, Oct. 3–and if you haven’t heard, we do this every first Saturday of every month.

Join us at Headquarters after 10 a.m….we’ll have some coffee, road snacks, and sign-making materials for those who need ’em.

We’ll carpool and roll out of HQ just past 10:30 and arrive at the intersection of M-37 and 32nd Street just before noon and meet up with our partners.

We’ll hand over the cash we collected in our front desk donation jar for prisoners’ commissary fund–for stuff like toothpaste, 35-cents-a-minute (!) phone calls, supplementary food, sweatshirts, and all sorts of other things the cretins running the joint deprive their victims of.

Last month, we were able to give Bonnie and Cliff, our amazing Baldwin warriors, $450 for that fund. They handed us a list of all the prisoners who they were able to help with money from our last visit.

And, depending on the scheduling whims of the cretins, some of us will be making a prison visit sometime that day.

If you’d like to be involved in visiting prisoners, Susan Koenig is helping organize folks from Benzie to do that. It’s not complicated, and Susan will connect you with the right folks and make sure your first visit is successful and meaningful.

And no, you do not need to speak a foreign language to be of service! Just showing the folks inside some first-hand care and concern makes a huge difference to them. And they all know at least some English.

Last time we were there, the camp was in the middle of releasing three inmates Bonnie & Cliff were assisting. One of them then stood with us along M-37.

Cliff said he was making plans to drive them back to their homes, which were–can you believe this–in friggin’ Miami!

It’s crucial that people make the connection between ICE; the horrors in Minneapolis; the systematic, unreported, nationwide sweeps of brown and black people into these camps, and Republicans who let this happen.

That’s why it’s critical that we urge people to VOTE. It’s the only way to stop these atrocities.

That’s what we’ll be doing Saturday, along the highway, in deep-red but suprirsingly friendly Baldwin. Please join us if you can!
